The Journey to drage
Five years ago, at 37 my body decided enough was enough.
I’d been a scaffolder for 20 years and although I loved the job, physically I was breaking down.
Each day I was exhausted and suffered with aches and pains, but I was still a young man.
I felt I was getting old before my time.
So after toying for years in my own head that I was ‘far too old to now change jobs or career’, one day I reached out to some friends to see if they could help or advise me.
One friend offered me an apprenticeship as I had the life skills he was looking for in his company.
Fast forward 5 years, the training is nearly complete, I’m working in an office at drage, enjoying work again and my physical health is better.
Although I was scared to make the change, fear is a great motivator, it enables you to do things you wouldn’t believe possible.
Don’t ever doubt what you are capable of.
I had a strong network that helped me, I didn’t do it all on my own.
You’re never too old.
I thought “four years training, I’ll be 41 by the time I’m qualified”.
Change your mindset to “I’ll be 41 in four years whether I do this or not”.
My advice to anyone thinking of change is go out there and do it, you won’t regret it.
