An EICR otherwise known an Electrical Installation Condition Report, is a formal method of compiling the findings of a periodic inspection and test.
The purpose of periodic inspection and testing is to provide an engineering view on whether or not the installation is in a satisfactory condition where it can continue to be used safely.
The Electrical Installation Condition Report is documentation that comprises of schedules for both inspection and test results.
Consultation with the client or client’s representative prior to the periodic inspection and testing work being carried out is essential.
This will enable the inspector to plan the inspection by gaining an overview of the installation.
Upon completion of the periodic inspection and testing, the Electrical Installation Condition Report will be given to the client or persons who ordered the inspection.
This will include an overall assessment in terms of its suitability for continued use.
This assessment will be either ‘Satisfactory’ or ‘Unsatisfactory’ dependant upon the observations found during the inspection and test.
